Tanjirou Kamado (竈門 炭治郎)
Tanjirou Kamado is the main protagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. A kind-hearted young man, Tanjirou becomes a Demon Slayer after his family is slaughtered by demons, and his sister Nezuko is turned into a demon herself. His goal is to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human and avenge his family by defeating Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon responsible for his family’s massacre. Throughout the series, Tanjirou is known for his unwavering determination, empathy for others, and his incredible sense of smell, which helps him track demons and detect threats in battle.
Appearance
Tanjirou has a distinctive appearance, with short black hair that fades into a dark burgundy at the tips and large, expressive dark red eyes. He has a scar on his forehead, which later evolves into a Demon Slayer Mark, a feature that enhances his physical abilities. His usual outfit consists of the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, a black jacket with a patterned checkered haori, which was passed down from his father. Tanjirou's gentle face and compassionate expressions often contrast with his fierce determination in battle.
Personality
Tanjirou is incredibly compassionate and caring, with a strong sense of justice and empathy, even towards demons who were once human. His kindness is one of his defining traits, often leading him to show mercy to defeated demons, offering them comfort in their final moments. However, he is also deeply driven by his mission to protect his sister Nezuko and eradicate demons, especially Muzan Kibutsuji.
Despite the horrors he faces, Tanjirou never loses his sense of humanity, and his determination to help others is unshakeable. He forms close bonds with his fellow Demon Slayers, particularly Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira, and shows deep respect for his mentors and Hashira. His strong moral compass often sets him apart as a hero who values life, even in a world filled with death and suffering.
Abilities & Powers
Tanjirou’s skills as a Demon Slayer develop rapidly throughout the series, and he learns to use various Breathing Styles to enhance his combat abilities. His signature abilities include:
[1] Water Breathing (水の呼吸, Mizu no Kokyū): Tanjirou initially learns Water Breathing from his teacher Sakonji Urokodaki. This style emphasizes fluidity and precision, allowing Tanjirou to unleash powerful, flowing attacks.
[2] Sun Breathing (日の呼吸, Hi no Kokyū): Also known as Hinokami Kagura, Sun Breathing is an ancient and powerful technique passed down in the Kamado family. Tanjirou discovers this breathing style later in the series, and it becomes his primary fighting method. Sun Breathing techniques are extremely effective against demons, especially powerful ones. [3] Superhuman Smell: Tanjirou has an extraordinary sense of smell, which allows him to detect scents from great distances and track demons. He can also "smell" emotions like fear and hostility, which gives him an advantage in battle. [4] Demon Slayer Mark: Tanjirou's Demon Slayer Mark appears on his forehead and grants him enhanced physical abilities, including increased strength, speed, and reflexes, allowing him to fight stronger demons. [5] Combat Intellect: Tanjirou is a quick learner with strong combat instincts. He is able to adapt his techniques to different situations and think strategically in battle, using his surroundings and his enemy’s weaknesses to his advantage.

Birthday: December 28 Height: 153 cm (5'0") Weight: 45 kg (99 lbs) Favorite Food: Konpeitō (a type of traditional Japanese sugar candy)
Nezuko Kamado (竈門 禰豆子) is one of the main protagonists in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is the younger sister of Tanjiro Kamado and the only surviving member of the Kamado family following a demon attack that annihilated her relatives. Nezuko was turned into a demon during the attack, but unlike other demons, she retains some of her human emotions and shows strong loyalty and affection toward her brother.
Appearance
Nezuko is a petite young girl with long, dark brown hair that fades into an orange color at the tips. She has large, soft pink eyes, which were once a shade of dark red before her transformation into a demon. Nezuko is often seen wearing a light pink kimono patterned with a hemp leaf design, tied with a red and white checkered obi, and a dark brown haori. Her defining feature as a demon is the bamboo muzzle she wears, which was placed by Giyu Tomioka to prevent her from attacking humans. Despite her demonic transformation, she retains an innocent, childlike appearance.
Personality
Before becoming a demon, Nezuko was a kind and caring person who deeply loved her family, especially her older brother, Tanjiro. As a demon, her personality shifts—she becomes more defensive and aggressive when protecting her loved ones, yet she still maintains her kind nature. Nezuko does not speak after her transformation, likely due to the bamboo muzzle, but she communicates through expressions and protective actions.
Nezuko also exhibits a strong will to protect human life, resisting her demonic urges to consume humans. Her bond with Tanjiro is a key part of her retaining her humanity. This loyalty is central to her character, and she fights alongside Tanjiro against demons while resisting the temptation to feed on humans.
Abilities
As a demon, Nezuko possesses enhanced strength, speed, and regenerative abilities. She can rapidly heal from injuries that would be fatal to humans, and she has a unique form of Blood Demon Art called Exploding Blood (血鬼術・爆血, Kekkijutsu: Bakketsu). This ability allows her to ignite her blood, which can destroy other demons or enhance the power of her allies' attacks. Additionally, she has the unusual trait of being able to restore her size and strength by sleeping instead of consuming human flesh, which is common among other demons.
Throughout the series, Nezuko continues to grow stronger and displays the ability to fight powerful demons, such as Daki during the Entertainment District Arc. In this arc, she undergoes a temporary physical transformation that increases her demonic power and causes her to take on a more adult, ferocious form, complete with vine-like tattoos that cover her body.
In the final arc of the series, it is revealed that Nezuko’s resistance to sunlight—a trait that makes her an extraordinary demon—plays a pivotal role in the battle against the demon king, Muzan Kibutsuji. Muzan intends to use Nezuko's immunity to sunlight to perfect his immortality. However, Nezuko is eventually cured of her demonic nature thanks to the efforts of Tamayo and Kagaya Ubuyashiki, allowing her to return to her fully human form.
